A Bizarre Pair Of Cases in Crawford

A two-fer of the strange in the annals of justice appeared in Judge Michael Heckman's Town of Crawford Court this past Monday evening.

The infamous Pine Bush pizza case had its first court hearing, which commenced when Frank Guardio and Joe Zankl both appeared, flanked by their attorneys.

The first order of business concerned a request for a protection order to be served on the two defendants by the complainants, Connie Squillace and Patti Brown, to whom the pizzas were addressed. This produced a spirited argument from Mr. Ingrassia, Joe Zankl's attorney, pointing out that no such order had been requested at the time of arrest and arraignment, and that nothing had happened in the four weeks since then to warrant it.

Justice Heckmann then asked if the complainants had produced a deposition or any testimony to back up the request for an order of protection. On being informed that they hadn't, he denied the request.

The case was adjourned until August 4, during which time it will be evaluated for a grand jury.

Not long after that, Michael Moore, the defendant in the Scotchtown Road home invasion/robbery case, appeared before Justice Heckman. His attorney requested a Grand Jury waiver, saying Moore will testify before a grand jury.

The case was sent for Grand Jury Evaluation and will be heard at Orange County Superior Court.
