Heard Around Our Towns...
There is news, and then there's lots of talk...

In Bloomingburg –
While the building inspector stays in Mamakating's purview, turns out she's looking into possible schooling activities occurring without permits. Her info came from village board comments; could the denouement be enforced bussing to Pine Bush Central schools? Meanwhile the streets in Chestnut Ridge, wider than many in the area, get wider to prevent more Mamakating concerns about safety...

In Gardiner –
The Mohonk Preserve is hosting a big New York City gala this week. Turns out the big organizations know where the deep pockets are. Maybe that's where talk about increasing the southern and western entrances to the Shawangunks should be brought up?

In Orange County –
The county Chamber of Commerce came out this week with a full-throated endorsement of the Legoland project. The clock is really ticking now... and all eyes again turn to see if Ellenville gets some of its own help, at last, from the state.

In Ulster County –
Need an example of truly ugly politics? How about the fact that the Ulster County GOP has filed a complaint against Democrat Pramilla Malick following her surprise write-in victory over wannabe Democrat John Bonacic, who's got all the other lines for his reelection bid November 8, based on the fact that she hasn't been running a proper campaign. Hey, she only got on the ballot through a herculean write-in effort that saw her get nearly 90 percent of the vote in the senator's core constituent areas! On to Election Day we all crawl...

In The Region –
Talking about election season, seems that Republican congressional candidate John Faso's participation in a Small Business Symposium in Monticello last week was the new norm for electioneering from his party's perspective, while his democratic opponent Zephyr Teachout focuses on campus events. The two meet next Thursday, September 29, at an Ulster Chamber breakfast. As for debates... those have been happening outside the district. Modern politics!
