MONTICELLO – Ex-Ellenville High School teacher Tom Nolan was sentenced to two-and-a-half years on Tuesday morning in Sullivan County Court. The Loch Sheldrake resident pled guilty to two counts of rape in the third degree, having admitted to having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old Ellenville student at his home in 2009.
The sentencing comes after he was first arrested in October for the allegations, and a subsequent arrest a month later for violating an order of protection against the victim.
In addition to the prison-time, Nolan will be subject to five-year supervised parole after his release, as well as having to register as a sex offender. He also surrendered his teaching license.
During remarks he made at the sentencing, Nolan apologized to his victim and her family.
"Not a day goes by that I don't cry myself to sleep," Nolan is quoted as saying.
