Terry Scott's dream turned out to be a barking success, when her "Bark in the Park" event took place on June 20. Terry, who owns, The Pampered Pet Grooming business, thought that a pet adoption and rabies clinic at Verkerdekill Park in Shawangunk, would be a good way to bring folks together. And it was.

After lots of planning and word of mouth, the event turned out to not only help Second Chance Farm, but also The Walden Humane Society as well.

"Sue Wiand was such a great help to me. She knows everyone, and through her we ended up with 20 vendors," said Scott. "We wanted people to know what's available to them in the way of animal businesses."

Dr. Kate Lucas of Walker Valley Vet vaccinated 60 pets, while the town was there to give out the licenses.

"There was a dog show put on by The Companion Dog Club of Newburgh, Mary Ann at Random Harvest designed and printed all the flyers, Hannaford Market donated sodas and ice, The Cup and Saucer Diner donated the hamburgers and hotdogs, Nancy from A Sure Sign in Montgomery designed all the road signs telling of the event. There were 40 merchants who sponsored the gathering and the Walden Savings Bank sent over eight volunteers," Scott said. "Bill and Sue Wiand also helped direct traffic."

All the participants were under the two pavilions and there were two tents put up for the barbecue.

Scott's husband came up with the name, Bark in the Park, which was easy to remember and relate to.

"Whenever there is a cause in Walker Valley or Pine Bush, people always rally to help. I can't thank all the wonderful people enough for making it a success. We plan to do it again next year," Scott said.

If you read the Times Herald-Record, you know that we had a successful protest against the negligent woman who caused so much pain and suffering to two horses in Middletown. The case was postponed until August 5, which is a good thing in this case. The horses, Suzi and Whiskey, can continue to recover at their safe haven. Thanks to all those sweet men and women who came out to speak out. One woman came from Bushkill, Pennsylvania, just to add her voice.

The police department of Wallkill Township was so kind and respectful to us. They gave us a great place to stand facing the front doors, and Ms. Lee had to walk past us to get in. She seemed surprised by the large group and the chanting, but I think it sank in pretty quickly. If she claims stupidity, she will not get away with it. Even if you were ignorant of horse care, you would go out to see your horse at least once in six months and know that the halter was too tight and there were hideous sores. You couldn't miss the ribs either. If she didn't think anyone would care, now she knows.
