Albany was 0 and 7 before they got on the bus for the long ride down to Pine Bush on Friday, October 24. They were 0 and 8 when they got back on the bus. In fact, the score was the worst they've seen in what has already been a season to forget.
For the Bushmen, it was a great night out under the lights and an opportunity for Kyni Scott to add TDs and yards to his season total, and for Joe Skrobola to rack up a bunch of tackles.
Albany received the opening kickoff and was three and out. The Bushmen took the ball in for Kyni Scott's first TD of the evening. Jordan Shaver kicked the extra point and the Bushmen were rolling.
Kyni Scott got his second touchdown on Pine Bush's second possession. Coach Wright was mixing it up with Scott, Carlos Guzman, and Adrian Kot as running backs and Albany never really got a handle on this.
In the second quarter, A.J. Latta ran back a punt return for another TD. Shaver added another extra point and the Bushmen were leading 21-0. Albany continued to punt on fourth downs, and then in the middle of the second quarter, for the first time in the game, they managed to stop the Bushmen and force a punt. However, a few plays later Joe Skrobola picked off a pass and ran it back for good field position that Kyni Scott turned into his third TD of the evening with 2:36 to go in the half. Once again, Shaver connected for the extra point and at the half the score was 28-0.
In the second half, Coach Wright began to get some playing time for his bench, especially after Carlos Guzman popped through a hole and ran 68 yards for his first TD.
On their next possession, Albany finally got a break, pulled off a 75 yard pass play and got six points on the board. The attempt at the two-point conversion failed, however.
On Pine Bush's next possession, Carlos Guzman broke out for a 61 yard touchdown run. The score was now 42-6, and Albany were visibly wilting under the pressure. On the second play after getting the ball back, Albany fumbled, Paul Cherubino recovered, and the Bushmen soon opened it up for Scott to make a 42 yard run for his fourth TD of the night.
A couple of inconclusive possessions later, Isaiah Jewell made an interception and Pine Bush had the ball at Albany's 15 yard line. Matt Santos took it in, Jordan Shaver converted and the game stood at what would be the final score of 56-6.
By this point, the Pine Bush Cheerleaders could be forgiven for being a little half hearted about the ritual pushups after a score since they'd already done so many.
Kyni Scott had another 175 yards rushing, besides his four TDs, and now has 1,133 yards for the season. Carlos Guzman had 158 yards and two TDs on four carries. Pine Bush are 6-2 on the season.
The final game this year for the Bushmen will be away at FDR, this Saturday, with a kickoff at 3:30 p.m.
