Superintendant Finalists Revealed

The two finalists among the field of candidates for the post of Superintendant of Schools in Pine Bush district have been revealed as Phillip Steinberg, from the New York City Department of Education, and Joan Carbone, the current Assistant Superintendant for Instruction of the Pine Bush School District.

Neither John Anthony, President of the Board of Education, nor Roseanne Sullivan, Vice-President of the Board of Education, would comment on the revelation of these two candidates' names, other than to point out that no-one on the board itself would have revealed them.

Dr. William Bassett, the interim Superintendant of Schools, while maintaining that he is not at all involved in the search for his replacement, noted that after the meetings with the stakeholder groups the week before (parents, students, faculty), the identities of the candidates were known to at least seventy people.

The position of Superintendant of Schools for this sprawling district, with seven schools, at least 500 teachers, and 6,200 students, will be filled with challenges, from the very real maintenance problems across the array of buildings and facilities, to the concerns of the district's voters over school budgets.

The Board of Education will be making its selection for the post over the next two weeks, and hopes to have the job wrapped up by the August 12 school board meeting.
