Town of Crawford Police were called to 932 Scotchtown-Collabar Road in the middle of a blisteringly hot Tuesday afternoon after a caller reported a home invasion and robbery by two men — claims which later were revealed to be entirely false, and part of an attempt to cover up the own callers alleged misdeeds.
According to a bulletin provided by the Crawford Police on Wednesday, Michael Moore, 30, of Bloomingburg, was charged with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree, and Falsely Reporting an Incident.
"At about 2:15 PM on June 10, 2008," says the report, "Moore contacted Orange County 911 and reported that two black males entered a residence he was visiting on Scotchtown-Collabar Road, brandished a handgun, tied him up and stole a safe containing U.S. currency."
Moore claimed the fabricated thieves were driving a silver sedan and were described as wearing dark clothing, probably jeans, and each weighing around two hundred pounds.
The property is owned by United Orchids Plus Corporation, which is an orchid farm with greenhouses behind the house.
"Moore was arraigned by Town Justice Michael B. Heckman and was sent to Orange County Jail on $500 cash bail," says the bulletin.
