A Pat On The Back

To the organizers of Sunday's Third Annual Cancer Walk. The volunteer effort put forth by Ellenville School students, staff and teachers to raise funds for a cause that afflicts so many loved ones both here and abroad is just one of the signs that our young people are learning the importance of community involvement.

Again to Ellenville's students; this time, for what our Blue Devil scholar-athletes are accomplishing on their various fields of play. The school's golf team just closed another winning season and the Varsity Football team just locked up a winning season and is poised for a playoff berth as it faces Liberty this Friday.

Meanwhile the other programs are finding their footing as new coaches and a winning pride are making their way back into Blue Devil sports.

To Ellenville's Director of Visual Arts (and contributor to this publication) Judy Sigunick for finally opening her Art Center to be located on Market Street. The center will open for a 6-week stint starting next Tuesday. Judy will be the first artist-in-residence and will be teaching people how to 'throw' pottery.

To Matthews' Pharmacy, The Laundry Room, The Mex-Mix Grill, The Fitness Source II and Irena Elbaum for dressing up the village's downtown business district with their building's new facades and signs and creating a standard to which future business owners should aspire.

To St. John's Episcopal Church which was one of a few churches across the region to set aside some time on Sunday for all creatures great and small. The church provided an animal blessing to any and all who brought their two, four, eight or no-legged friends, acknowledging the fact that, for some, their most important companions aren't human.
