The Ellenville Journal has been an enthusiastic supporter of this region since the paper's inception. The topic of a Joint Economic Development Office has created a buzz in the community as residents weigh in with their views and concerns. Part of any sound economic revitalization plan must involve the proper accounting and promotion of the strengths and resources available in our area.

Recently, this newspaper has joined the many business and community leaders that have called for the creation of an economic development office that would be jointly funded by the Town of Wawarsing and Village of Ellenville.

Money exists in both the village and town to create this office yet government leaders will not act unless they sense that this is something the community wants.

Extra, Extra Take The Survey

To that end, the Ellenville Journal, along with the Ellenville-Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce have created a short online survey to help gauge the feelings of the people who live and work here. We encourage anyone with an interest in the economic health of this community to read the survey on our website and complete it.

The results of the survey are completely anonymous and confidential and both organizations hope to use what we learn from this survey to assist our elected officials to determine what steps should be taken by local government to help our area grow.

Polling will close on the newspaper's website at 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 14. The results of the survey will be made available to our readers in the October 18 edition of the Ellenville Journal.

We urge everyone to complete the survey. The more people that participate in the process the better indication of what local residents want.

The last question of the survey asks what specifically you feel local government should do to help our area. We encourage everyone to answer this question for the sake of gathering valuable ideas and information.
