HMPC Continues Restoration Project
Huntfest Book Sale This Weekend

The Hunt Memorial Preservation Committee (HMPC) will be hosting HuntFest 2007 on Sunday, September 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., outside the Hunt Memorial Building in Liberty Square, Ellenville.

"HuntFest will be even better this year," says Phyllis Rubin, HMPC president. Rubin notes that this year's book fair and street festival will include more books than last year, as well as a local DJ and other family fun. "Everyone can stock up on books for the winter, all at a wonderful bargain," she says.

Most books at HuntFest are priced between 50 cents and one dollar. A special section will offer rare and premium titles, priced individually. "Many attendees last year picked up beautiful books as early holiday gifts, all at fantastic prices," says Rubin. In all, last year's HuntFest attendees purchased more than one thousand books.

HuntFest 2007 is the first to be held on a Sunday, to coincide with Ellenville's new Farmers Market. "By moving to a Sunday, we expect even more people," says Rubin. "HuntFest is a great complement to the Farmers Market."

All proceeds from HuntFest will help renovate and restore the Hunt Memorial, downtown Ellenville's crown jewel. The HMPC has already replaced the structure's roof and has planned numerous other renovations.

In addition to the book sale, the HMPC is looking for sponsors for various parts of the building. The sponsorship amounts range from $1,000 for a rear window to $25,000 for the building's main entrance off of Liberty Square.

Dwight Coombe, owner of Sprague and Killeen Insurance, is the first person to sponsor one of the building's pieces, a window which belonged to the office of former tenant Mickey Squillante. The window will cost $2,500.

In a written statement, Phyllis Rubin described Coombe's donation, "Dwight Coombe has been a champion of the Hunt restoration project and with visionary eyes and great community spirit he, his wife and the Sprague and Killeen Agency have made this commitmentthe Hunt Memorial Building plays a major role in the revitalization of the Ellenville-Wawarsing community."

The Hunt Memorial Preservation Committee is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization established in 2002 to restore and preserve the Hunt Memorial Building in Liberty Square, Ellenville. Donations and new memberships are welcomed at www.huntmemorial.com, and HMPC, 716 Irish Cape Road, Ellenville, NY 12428.
