Year One

How fitting is it that the traditional gift for a first anniversary is paper, and we're a newspaper?

One year ago this week the Ellenville Journal rolled off the presses (again) for the first time. After three weeks of producing stories for our website and only four weeks after the decision to create the paper was made, the paper hit stands throughout the Town of Wawarsing and beyond.

We were unsure what the response would be and we never could have predicted the one we got. Over the past year this publication has received a great deal from its readers and advertisers. You have taken us into your homes and made us a part of your daily lives and for that we thank you.

Your support and trust in us to bring you the news about your community — about our community — is something that we wanted to earn and something that we hope to continue to achieve far into the future.

Lately, the idea of 'the future' has been on the minds and lips of several around the area. As more of our past fades away we wonder where we are headed and whether the future is a thing to look forward to.

We say it is. Indeed, this paper's existence is a testament to the conviction of our belief that Ellenville and Wawarsing are special places and that its citizens need a way to learn about developments in local governments, schools, businesses and communities if people are to make informed decisions about just what they want that future to look like.

The Ellenville Journal's future brightened this past week when it moved its offices to 1 Market Street right off Liberty Square and right in the heart of the village. The move came out of necessity as we prepare to expand and deepen our coverage of issues that are important to you.

What began a year ago was a partnership between the Ellenville Journal and you, the reader. But we would not have been able to accomplish our goals without another partnership — the one that exists between all of our staff.

Newspapers are a funny business and they sometimes require individuals to do things that they never thought they could do. But whatever we have asked our staff to do, they have accomplished and the paper you hold in your hands would not exist without that small and truly dedicated group of individuals whose goal has been and will remain to bring you the most complete picture of events and issues happening in your hometown.

We hope this year has brought as much fun and satisfaction to you as it has to us. And we promise that this will be the last time you will hear us talk about us — until next year.

Until then…Thank you. And watch out.
