(PR) The Ellenville-Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce is embarking on a "Buy Local" campaign. You may have noticed a number of our Town's businesses have posted "Buy Local ... Shop Our Town" signs in their windows to announce this project.
The Chamber claims that if each of the Town of Wawarsing's 6,000 households spends $5.00 more per week locally, $1.5 million would be pumped into the town by this time next year. The impact of this would be immediate and give the area a worthwhile return. The Chamber also cites the importance of considering that nearly 5% of the county's sales tax would return to the Town of Wawarsing as well as approximately 1% to the Village of Ellenville annually.
With the soaring price of gasoline the "Shop Local" campaign will help everyone. Spending money locally in this way is not a burden to area residents. The effect, the Chamber argues, will be a boost for the local economy and will help the community recover from recent losses felt in the town. The Chamber is unaware of any businesses on the immediate horizon that have the capacity to stimulate business in the Town of Wawarsing with the impact this campaign has. Money spent here has the potential to stay here.
The Chamber urges local shoppers to consider partnering with them to become part of this "Buy Local ... Shop Our Town" campaign to strengthen our local economy. If you would like a "Buy Local ... Shop Our Town" sign contact the EWCOC office at 647-4620.
