Local Chamber Gathering Breeds Optimism For Future

On the evening of Wednesday, February 28 the Ellenville-Wawarsing Chamber of Commerce held the first of what it hopes to be, many positive meetings among its members. The event, which was hosted by the White Wolf restaurant in Napanoch, drew over 60 people from the local chamber, six Ulster County Legislators including Mary Sheeley and Hector Rodriguez, State Senator John Bonacic and Ulster County Chamber of Commerce President Ward Todd.

The event was a time for the chamber's leadership to "get in touch with our membership and the community," explained EWCOC President Holly Houghtaling. Ms. Houghtaling was very happy with the energy the event seemed to create saying, "It was the best turnout since [in the three years] I have been involved in the chamber."

Others in attendance agreed that the spirit of the evening was very positive and one of hope for a renewed energy in the business community.

Ms. Houghtaling said that other events are in the works though she wasn't at liberty to say what they would be. However, she did say that there was a possibility that the local chamber could host an Ulster County Chamber of Commerce event in the future.

Sam Bugna, co-owner of Lock 31 said of the event, "It was just good to get a lot of members in one place and ask the people what they want so [the chamber] can function more effectively."

Jim Maloney of the White Wolf hosted the event and Karen Leitstein of the Catskill Mountain House provided homemade desserts.
