On Friday, March 16, and Saturday, March 17, the Ellenville High School Drama Club will perform 'The Wizard of Oz'. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for seniors and students; tickets will be available at the door.
Auditions began in January, and of the forty-three enthusiastic attendees, each was given a roll. "Luckily, in a play like 'The Wizard of Oz', there are a number of group scenes, so every student was give a part," explains Janine Mignemi, the director of the high school's drama club. This will be Mignemi's second production, following last year's performance of "Bye Bye Birdie".
After four weeks of classroom rehearsals, the cast of the upcoming performance is eager to practice on stage. Beginning this week students will be soliciting ads from local businesses, and the event will be advertised on both the school television channel and local radio station.
"All of the students tried out, they are all involved, and are committed to doing well," says Mignemi. "We tried to include as many people as we could."
