Town officials gathered Monday afternoon to celebrate the ground-breaking of the site of the future Depot Plaza in Wurtsboro. Once completed, the plaza will consume 27,000 feet of a seven-acre parcel. Thirty percent of the plaza will be dedicated to retail; the rest of the space will house offices.
"We'd like to begin construction next week," said Paul Haber, the owner of the property. Though the timing will depend largely on the weather throughout the winter, the proposed completion of the project is slated for the summer of 2007. Currently negotiating for the space are Dunkin Donuts and Remax.
Located just outside of the village on Route 209, the project promises growth for the community. "Generally speaking," said Ed Hanaford, the mayor of Wurtsboro, "people like the idea of business." The project has met with little criticism.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were Town Supervisor Charlie Penna and Sullivan County Legislator Sam Wohl.
