A Rare Find
Bicentennial Event Offers Food and Fun

A small but satisfied crowd attended the Antique Appraisal and Barbecue that was held at the Elks Lodge in Napanoch last Saturday, September 16. The event, which ran from 2 pm to 7 pm, featured traditional American folk music, the Elks' famous barbecue chicken and the season's last taste of sweet corn.

But if treasure hunting was more of what you had in mind, appraisers from Thumbprint Antiques (located in Stone Ridge) and Old Brick House Antiques (located in Kerhonkson) were on hand to tell you what that doodad or widget that has been lying around your house is actually worth. One area woman came with two small, nondescript pieces and was pleasantly surprised to hear that they were each worth about $125.

The event was held in conjunction with the Town of Wawarsing's Bicentennial celebration, which is now entering its final days as the celebration's closing ceremony approaches on Saturday, October 14.

Dr. Richard Craft offered the day a local feel when he presented a series of items that were made in and around the Town of Wawarsing, including a glass cane that was made in the area's glass factory.

Dr. Mark Craft, the event's organizer, felt that the day went well but said, "I am just sorry more people didn't come."
