On a weekend that celebrated much of Ellenville's history, the village was inundated with a number of people who were a part of that history. The Ellenville-Wawarsing Alumni Association celebrated its All Year Class Reunion, inviting any and all members of Ellenville High School's graduating classes back to their alma mater to catch up with old friends and see all of the changes that the village has undergone in their absence.
The reunion program, which took place on the evening of Saturday, August 26, included a presentation in the high school auditorium and a dinner for the alumni in the school's cafeteria. Each side of the cafeteria was packed with people and festooned with balloons and streamers. Waiters and waitresses had to contend with excited alumni that kept getting up to take pictures and to greet new arrivals. During the dinner, friends caught up on recent events, exchanged stories, and recalled old jokes. Outside the cafeteria, the hall was filled with people who stopped and looked at the trophy displays, recognizing their own names, the names of friends, and sometimes, the names of their friends' children.
The day after the program, the class of 1960 gathered at the Aroma Thyme Bistro for a brunch that allowed for a smaller gathering and a quieter atmosphere. By all accounts, the reunion was a wonderful time for current residents and long absent alumni to come together for a weekend of memories and good times.
