Rude Awakening for Village Residents As Early Morning Storm Causes Damage and Power Outages
A violent windstorm tore through the village of Ellenville early Saturday morning. One resident, Jean Craft, described the wind as a loud “hum”. Several others reported that they were woken up somewhere between 4:30 and 5:00 this morning by the heavy wind and thunder.
The storm, according to Ellenville Police Chief Phil Mattracion, seemed to come from the northeast and continue to the southwest. All major incidents of damage seemed to have occurred in a localized area, causing several village residents to wonder if Ellenville had witnessed a tornado.
As of eleven o'clock Saturday morning, Chief Mattracion informed The Journal that no injuries had been reported. He had been in touch with the National Weather Service in Albany to get a clear idea of what happened during the morning's early hours. Mattracion also said that he had been in contact with Central Hudson and was informed that power would be restored by the end of the day.

A Maple Avenue home was severely damaged as a tree fell on the owner's front porch and SUV. L & W Tree Removal Service was called in to clear the tree from the site.
A tree on Maple Avenue turned this homeowner's front porch into kindling due to Saturday's high winds.
The falling tree crushed the homeowner's SUV during Saturday morning's violent winds.
This tree, located on Ellenville's Hickory Street, was pulled up by the roots. The tree dislodged part of the sidewalk as well as the nearby picket fence. The damage on Hickory Street was part of a swath of destruction that seemed to move northeast to southwest through Ellenville.
